LSTV Blog #2 - September 2019
September 2019 - Freshers' Week 2019 and much more...
Freshers' week is a busy time for any society, none more so than LSTV. We've had a packed month but it has been a blast!
Kicking off the month, we channelled our inner interior designers; cleaning out and rearranging our office. We picked up a new (and very purple!!) sofa, which is far too comfortable for us to get anything done anymore. This led to an amusing situation when we realised too late that the sofa was too heavy to carry all the way from Headingley to our office; but fortunately Jeff's Man 'n' Van service came to our rescue.
Of course the biggest event of the month was Freshers' Week, beginning with us travelling all across Leeds on move-in day to speak to freshers arriving in Leeds for the first time. We got the authentic freshers experience soaking, up the atmosphere and chatting to freshers at the Union club nights; We met some colourful characters there, from a pair of cowboys to Jesus himself, as well as some interesting performances including free-style rap and a 'unique' performance of Lewis Capaldi's 'Someone you Loved'.
At the end of freshers' week we held our intro meeting. It was great to see so many new faces there, and such an interest in student television. We're really looking forward to the coming year and to spend it with so many great people.
We also got the opportunity to speak to a couple of great bands who came to Leeds this month. We got the opportunity to speak to Ska-Punk legends 'Less Than Jake' and Leeds-based band, 'Captives'. Look out for these interviews coming soon on our Facebook and YouTube pages.
If you want to get involved, join our members' page to keep updated with everything that's going on here.
Things to look out for in October:
- Our coverage of Leeds Varsity 2019 (1st - 2nd October). We'll be covering all of the matches across the two days and rounding it off with a live broadcast of the men's and women's Rugby Finale from Headingley Stadium (17:00, 2nd October)
- On the 5th October we'll be running our Give it a Go session from 10:00 - 16:00. Drop by our office any time and try your hand at presenting, camerawork, live broadcasts, editing and much more.
- The first LSTV social of the year: our film and TV themed Otley run (11th October). Join us as we make our way from Woodies in Headingley to the Union to round the night off in Fruity.
